ATN:
Can Genetically Engineered Mosquitoes Help Fight Disease?

Mosquitoes aren’t just annoying– they are big time killers spreading terrible diseases. Remember the Zika outbreak last year? That was spread primarily by the mosquito species—Aedes aegypti. And this species is pretty nasty it also transmits dengue fever and chikungunya. And to top it all off– it’s really hard to control their populations– they thrive in residential areas and can breed in super small amounts of water. So any still water sitting in your yard can act as a breeding ground for these bugs. Traditional control methods include using pesticides, larvicides and reducing breeding grounds– which often means eliminating any small puddles of water that have accumulated like on buckets left outdoors, play structures, and other items found around a yard.

Disintegrating Fligbook by Andymation
How do you create a flipbook where the character is disintegrating? Add lots and lots of well-placed dots. This Disintegrating Flipbook animation tutorial from Laika stop-motion animator Andy Bailey of Andymation demonstrates with a LED light pad, a pencil, some paper and binding clips. And though making hundreds of dots to create the effect takes time and effort, as seen in the demo, it’s well worth the result.

Josh Mcdowell Devotions: Big Person On Campus
The greatest among you must be a servant. But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matthew 23:11-12
BEN AND MARCY were a brother-sister pair that started attending youth group at a small church. The struggling group was glad to get them, because they seemed like strong Christians and showed up at everything right from the start. After a few months Ben volunteered for a vacant spot on the youth group leadership council; the council enthusiastically welcomed him. And by now Marcy was deep into a midweek girls’ Bible study group.
But soon Ben and Marcy started taking charge. They insisted that things get done their way. They bragged about how they had led other groups and said their ideas would really help the group grow. At first the adult volunteers went along with them. But Ben wanted more and more control in the youth group, and Marcy pushed hard to further her ideas of what her girls’ group should study. When the adults asked the pair to back off, Ben and Marcy got huffy. Two weeks later they left the church without a word.

TKSST:  Nature" Vanishing Trick"

Teenage Action For Conservation youth ambassador Lily Macfarlane created this video to highlight extinction and loss of biodiversity in our local ecosystems: Nature’s Vanishing Trick. British writer Robert Macfarlane, Lily’s father and author of Lost Words, helped the video go viral when he shared it online. Watch as her color pencil drawing of a tansy beetle disappears and is drawn again, echoing her narration.

Robot Boat Sails into History by Finishing Atlantic Crossing

All summer, the small boat drifted steadily eastward. It drifted across the churning North Atlantic. It drifted until it neared the Irish coast. It made history. It became the first unmanned sailboat to cross the Atlantic.
It is called SB Met. It was built by Norwegian company Offshore Sensing AS. It reached the finish line of the Microtransat Challenge for robotic boats on Aug. 26. It finished two and a half months after setting off from Newfoundland. That's according to preliminary data.

DOGO News:
Dutch Artist Envisions Transforming Space Trash Into Fiery Shooting Stars

Dutch designer Daan Roosegaarde has spent much of his career seeking artistic solutions to solve our environmental woes. His past projects include "Bioluminescent Trees" to light streets, a "Smog-Free Tower" to clean Beijing's polluted air, and "Gates of Light," which uses the headlamps of passing cars to illuminate the 60 floodgates of the Afsluitdijk, a major dam and causeway in the Netherlands. Now, the creative artist is hoping to use his skills to solve a pressing global issue - space junk!

TT:  This Radio Station Broadcasts all over the World, but Only at Breakfast Time

Global Breakfast Radio is a 24-hour broadcast operation. It collects programs from more than 250 radio stations. They are from all around the world. But there's a catch. Each of those stations is only played during its time zone's respective breakfast time slot. "The sun is always rising somewhere. Breakfast is always just about to happen. In some small way, Global Breakfast Radio hopes to be a way of traveling globally through the medium of radio." That's according to GBR.

ATN:  Is Video Game Addiction Real?

As the video game Fortnite is taking over the world, there’s a rising panic that some gamers are getting full-on addicted, with headlines like “Parenting the Fortnite Addict” and “I almost lost my sons to Fortnite” popping up all over the place. Even the World Health Organization is worried about video games — just recently, it officially recognized “Gaming Disorder” as a mental health condition. But it’s not that simple. The American Psychiatric Association isn’t convinced, and says there’s not enough research showing that video game addiction is its own disorder. So what’s going on? Is video game addiction REALLY a thing?

DOGO News:  Rare Black Leopard Caught on Camera

While any sighting of the critically-endangered leopard deserves mention, that of a black leopard is particularly newsworthy. What makes the specimen, recently captured on camera in Central Kenya by San Diego Zoo researchers and British wildlife photographer Will Burrard-Lucas, unique is that it is the first scientific documentation of such a creature in Africa in nearly a century. Prior to this, the only confirmed sighting was a 1909 photograph taken in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
