Newsela:  Grumpy Cat has Died; Internet-Famous Feline was 7

"Some days are grumpier than others," the Instagram caption read.
It appeared next to a photo of the Internet's most famous and beloved cat, the one with the perpetually miserable mug.
However, this was no ordinary post on @realgrumpycat on May 17. The wildly popular Instagram account has more than 2.4 million followers. These people have grown to love the cat's perma-scowl.
Grumpy Cat's owners had come to share some extremely :( news:
Grumpy Cat is dead.

TKSST:  The Most Amazing Thing About Domino Chain Reactions

A domino can knock over the next domino at about 1.5x larger (perhaps 2x larger) and this instant video classic from 2009 is a great example of this chain reaction. Watch University of Toronto’s Professor Stephen Morris knock over a 1-meter tall domino that weighs over 100 pounds by starting with a 5mm high by 1mm thick domino. TINY.
There are 13 dominoes in this sequence. If Professor Morris used 29 dominoes in total, with the next one always being 1.5x larger, the last domino would be the height of the Empire State Building.

TKSST:  How Scientists Solved This Dinosaur Puzzle

When paleontologists uncover a dinosaur they usually only find part of the animal, but when we walk through a museum we see exhibits that paint a full picture – so how do they fill in all those blank spaces? In the early 1900’s artists used to hand carve the pieces, but we’ve come a long way in the past century – both technologically and scientifically.
Now, we’re living in what some call a “golden age” for paleontology. Researchers are uncovering nearly one new species of dinosaur a week – making building exhibits easier and more efficient.

TT:  Berlin Zoo Unveils Name of Latest Polar Bear Cub

It's Hertha.
Berlin's Tierpark zoo has unveiled the much-anticipated name of its new star. The star is a 4-month-old polar bear cub.
Hertha was born on Dec. 1. She is named after the German capital's eponymous top league soccer club, which is sponsoring the animal.
The club's mascot is a brown bear. The team presented a ball with the cub's name at the zoo. Then mother, Tonja, and daughter ran into the enclosure. That delighted the assembled photographers.
Hertha played ball for the cameras before accidentally kicking it into the deep end of the moat. In a display of motherly love, Tonja retrieved the ball.

DOGO News:  Trash-Eating "Sharks" Are Taking Over Harbors Worldwide

While even the mention of a shark swimming close to shore is enough to send residents scurrying for cover, the "WasteShark" is being welcomed with open arms. The brainchild of South African entrepreneur Richard Hardiman, the aquatic drone is designed to devour all floating debris, including plastic and other non-biodegradable trash, that has accumulated along coastal waters, before it drifts out to sea.

DOGO News:  Extended Winter Could Cause Pluto's Atmosphere To Freeze And Collapse By 2030

As if being downgraded to dwarf planet status was not enough, Pluto may now be in danger of losing its wispy atmosphere by 2030. The dire prediction comes from a 28-year study of the small celestial body, which lies at the edge of our solar system, by a team of international researchers led by University of Tasmania astronomer Andrew Cole.

TT:  How Emojis Could Help People with Food Allergies

Someday soon an emoji might literally save lives.
Hiroyuki Komatsu is a Google engineer. He submitted a proposal. He proposed to add a range of new icons to the standard emoji library. It could help those with food allergies. It could help them understand what they are eating anywhere in the world.
“Emoji should cover characters representing major food allergens.” That's what Komatsu wrote in his proposal. “It enables people to understand what [ingredients] are used in foods even in foreign countries and safely select meals.”

TKSST:  A ‘Ghost Bear’ Mother Teaches Her Cubs to Fish

A ‘ghost bear’ mother and her two cubs venture into a river in western Canada to eat. Her cubs need to learn how to fish, and the mother is looking specifically for female salmon carrying the nutrient-rich eggs that will help the bears put on weight for winter.
This BBC Earth clip from Natural World: Ghost Bear captures their feast, and shows what happens when a second, larger ghost bear wanders into the scene.

DOGO News:  Alleged Russian Spy Whale Gains Celebrity Status In Norway

Mention the word spy, and the images that come to mind are those of secretive, stealthy fictional characters like British Secret Service agent James Bond and former CIA assassin Jason Bourne. However, the alleged Russian mole, who recently "defected" to Norway, fits none of those descriptions. In fact, it is not even a person, but a friendly Beluga whale who loves to interact with humans!

DOGO News:
French President Emmanuel Macron Promises To Rebuild Fire-Ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral

No visit to the beautiful city of Paris, France is complete without a visit to the Notre Dame de Paris or, as it is commonly called, Notre Dame. The medieval cathedral, built over 180 years — from 1163 to 1345— is one of the world's most stunning examples of Gothic architecture. Unfortunately, on April 15, 2019, the 850-year-old monument, which is visited by over 13 million people annually, was engulfed in a massive blaze that caused widespread damage to the iconic structure.
