TKSST:  The Multiplying Rabbits Riddle

After years of experiments, you’ve finally created the pets of the future – nano-rabbits! They’re tiny, they’re fuzzy … and they multiply faster than the eye can see. But a rival lab has sabotaged you, threatening the survival of your new friends.
Those pesky Nano Cats! Can you figure out if your nano-rabbits will fit into the bottom cell of your triangular habitat? How many trailing zeros should there be at the end of the count of rabbits? And do you need to pull the emergency shutdown lever?

TKSST:  "Island, an Animated Short"

Whirring bugs, squeaking birds, hiccuping volcanoes, leaf creatures, tube creatures, crumbling cubes, fluffy poofs, amorphous mist. These creature noises all come together in a melodic cacophony of music in this animated short that mixes stop-motion with 2D animation: Island by Max Mörtl and Robert Löbel. Sound by David Kamp.

TKSST:  "The Living Fossil Fish - Animated Life"

"In 1938, South African museum curator Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer came across a strange blue fin poking out of a pile of fish. With its fleshy, lobed fins and its tough armored scales, the coelacanth did not look like any other fish that exists today. The coelacanth belongs to a lineage that has remained virtually unchanged earning it the description of a “living fossil.”

TKSST:  Emperor Penguin Chicks Defend Against a Giant Petrel

How can a group of emperor penguin chicks protect themselves against predators as they take their first journey to the water without their parents? They create a defensive circle, stand as tall as they can, and peck as much as possible. Also: A feisty Adélie penguin might come and help.
See what happens when a giant petrel attacks the young penguins in this clip from Spy in the Snow. David Tennant narrates the series featuring cameras disguised as animals.
Behind nature’s magical winter wonderland are some of the toughest places on earth to survive. Hidden cameras in a new generation of Spy Creatures, and the return of some old friends, reveal the fascinating behaviors of animals from penguins to parrots, polar bears to otters, wallabies and wombats...

TKSST:  Hypocycloid Circular Motion Optical Illusion

A circle made of points, shown here with small white balls, appears to roll around the inside edge of a larger circle, but is that what’s really happening? File under: Cycloids, hypocycloids, and optical illusions. This mechanical gear design, demonstrated by the Visual Education Project and originally developed by Italian polymath Girolamo Cardano (1501-1576), demonstrates how circular motion can result from linear motion...

TKSST:  Lost and Found, a Bittersweet Stop-Motion Short

“A knitted toy dinosaur must completely unravel itself to save the love of its life.” Lost and Found is a bittersweet, potentially tear-inducing story about a crocheted Amigurumi fox and dinosaur who live in a Japanese restaurant’s lost and found bin. Sad story warning: Parents of younger and/or sensitive kiddos may want to screen this one first.

TKSST:  Linocut Carving and Printing by Maarit Hänninen

Amsterdam-based linocut artist Maarit Hänninen filmed how she carves and prints her illustration, titled Tomorrow, Tomorrow, with a printmaking technique called linocut. First, she transfers her original artwork to a tinted lino block, a linoleum surface, using a pencil. Then she carves around the to-be-printed areas with chisels, clarifying the illustration with black sharpie.

TKSST:  The Titicaca Water Frog’s Baggy Skin
At Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America and the highest large lake in the world, there’s less oxygen available in the air and water. This is where the Titicaca water frog (Telmatobius culeus) lives. It has adapted to the high altitude with the help of baggy skin folds that absorb the oxygen it needs...
