CSM: Apps to Watch Out For in 2019

It's a new year, and that means new apps on your tweens' and teens' phones. While the old standbys like Snapchat and Instagram are still going strong, there's no shortage of social media, video-sharing, and homework-help apps that are popular but not necessarily household names. Of course, it's nearly impossible to keep up with every hot new app, which makes knowing the risky features -- like interaction with strangers, anonymity, privacy concerns, and iffy content -- a solid first step. But it's still important to know the specifics of what's on your kid's device and whether or not you'll allow it to stay there.

Video Game Addiction Facts
When it comes to addiction, often the first things that come to mind are drugs and alcohol, but there are other types of addictions as well, including addictions to playing video games.

A video game addiction is defined as the compulsive playing of computer or video games, such that it interferes with everyday life. Those that are addicted to video gaming often play compulsively which can lead to some adverse effects. While an addiction to video games is not listed as an official mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), there is ongoing research into the issue of compulsive game playing.

Jeff Reagan's Sunday Thoughts

We’re all creatures of habit.  Some good. Some, not so much.  But most of us are aware enough to know one from the other. Even if we feel powerless sometimes to stop a bad habit, or start a good one.

For some it’s smoking. Others, a daily cocktail.  And starting a good habit isn’t so easy, even if we know it’s the right thing.

I had a friend once who desperately wanted to quit smoking. And he certainly knew it was the right thing to do.  But he didn’t think he was up to the task.  So I shared with him a little trick that I learned from someone who did quit successfully.

Science Sparks

Here at Science Sparks we are passionate about making science fun for kids. All our activities are easy to do and use only equipment and materials commonly found around the home. Science experiments for kids don’t have to be complicated and boring, but can be great fun for both children and adults alike.

Science based activities offer endless creative learning opportunities and are a great way to spend time with your children. We’ve had some of our best chats while drawing on filter paper and making patterns in milk.

Parental Guides to Cell Phones

Parental Guides to Cell Phones

There has been much written and distributed regarding "If," "When," and "Should" children be given Cell/Smart phones.  AND all agree, there are no hard and fast rules.

“Wireless empowers kids to be able to learn, engage and communicate with their teachers, classmates and friends. At the same time, it’s important for parents to talk with their kids about responsible use, as well as the family rules and consequences if those rules are broken. By setting these expectations, parents will help their kids enjoy the benefits of wireless technology.” said Jamie Hastings, Vice President, External and State Affairs for CTIA."

I have a small collection of very good resources regarding this topic.  It is time to begin your family's technology plan regarding Mobile devices.  Click on the links below to begin your process!

All Treatment
The majority of existing treatment centers do not accept teens under the age of 18, and parents are having a hard time finding local treatment options for their children.

So we combined the government's national rehab center database (SAMHSA) with modern location technology to help solve this problem.

The Find Teen Rehab Centers Near You technology uses your location to generate a local listing of all the teen rehab centers in and around your community.

Teen Addiction Treatment Centers

Alltreatment.com is a community-based public-benefit website connecting people to the addiction resources they need.

This resource is free to the public.

We are an experienced team of software and internet search executives now passionately pursuing ways to make treatment and recovery more accessible to anyone struggling with addiction. Most recently we worked together in a business that helped businesses and consumers find each other more effectively – by enabling businesses to more strategically position themselves on the internet.
