The Best Way a Son Learns to Be a Man
Focus on the Family

"Most boys enter healthy manhood with the help of a "point man" — someone who leads the way and offers support through the trials of life..."

How to Set Up Parental Controls on Your iPhone

"You are not the first parent to give your phone to a child for the purpose of amusing them, nor are you the first parent to get frustrated when you get it back, only to find your apps rearranged and deleted — and perhaps some interesting new purchases added, too. Here's how to regain control over your phone..."

Growing Leaders:  Real Leadership. For Life

Calvary teachers were introduced to Tim Elmore at a Fall Teacher's conference and then Eric Bickel made sure we received his daily blog posts.  I have continued the practice Eric began several years ago believing these short posts were exceptionally important to our school:  teachers parents, and church leaders.

Click on the link above and then scroll to near the bottom of the website to a "Subscribe to Blog" button.  This will allow you to receive his posts on a daily basis (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).

Enjoy!

A Platform for Good

A Platform for Good

I have just begun to read articles from this online source but what I have read so far is well written and POSITIVE!

From their website:

"We live in a world today that’s ravaged by crime, war, pain, and suffering.
Every year, thousands of people not only suffer, but also die unnecessarily and their love, compassion, and friendship is wiped off the earth.
But this doesn’t mean that everything that happens in the world bad. Despite what the nightly news broadcasts into your home every night, there’s still good in this world. In fact, there’s a lot of good.
The only problem is that because ‘good’ doesn’t sell newspapers or generate viral clicks, major news outlets don’t report it.
A Platform for Good is here to right this wrong.
Our purpose is to create a platform where honest, good, everyday people can share the good they’ve found in their life and the goodness they’ve found in their heart.
This is in the form of personal stories, recommendations, personal insights, or anything in between. We accept videos, music, articles, photos, and anything else in between – as long as it shows the good in the world.
So, if you have some good in your life that you want to share, head to the contribute page now to start sharing your goodness.
We’re excited to have you as part of the team!

A Platform for Good Team."

Teach Parents Tech YouTube Channel

I came across this YouTube channel today and thought I'd share it.  The channel is a collection of very short videos (generally a 60 seconds or less) created to make understanding some of the basic technology things we do easier to understand.  While the videos are created for the older public, many could easily be used in a family, homeschool or classroom setting.  The last update was in 2014 which is a shame.

Google Classroom At Calvary Lutheran School for Parents

Introduction
Mr. Kletke introduced Google Classroom along with Google Docs to his 6th graders in the spring of 2015.  Since then Calvary teachers have continued to expand its use throughout the middle grades, however, parents have not always fully understood just what Google Classroom and Google Docs were all about.  Here are some resources for parents.

A Brief Description
"Google Classroom is one of Google for Education's newest products and it has received rave reviews from many educators. It is a learning management system that allows you to digitally create and manage assignments as well as to provide feedback to your students. Google Classroom works particularly with Google Apps for Education , a suite of productivity tools (Drive, Docs, Gmail, etc) that you may already use in your school."

Should You Buy a Chromebook?
(How-to Geek, Feb. 3, 2017)

Personal Note:  I am often asked what I think about Chromebooks but had no real experience with them.  So I researched opinions and then went and bought one!  The article posted here seems to echo what I read and what I have experienced with my new toy!
