How to Geek:  How to Safely Dispose of (or Sell) Smarthome Hardware

Smarthomes are continually changing, and what may be the best tech will be old news tomorrow. Sometimes our devices are replaced by better versions of the same product, like when Amazon released the slimmer Ring Pro. in other cases, you may have jumped into one ecosystem only to find that a different ecosystem emerged that better suited your needs—like a switch from SmartThings to Wink, for example.
No matter the reason, occasionally it’s time to retire older smarthome hardware. You may want to toss it, you may want to give it to family, or you may even want to sell it. But before you do that, you need to properly remove the device from your smarthome system and erase its data. Otherwise, you run the risk of someone else gaining access to your saved credentials. (You should take it to an electronics recycler rather than just tossing it in the trash, though!)

Young Ocean Explorers

www.youngoceanexplorers.com is an amazing website made by a Father and Daughter team from New Zealand. If your kids are into the deep blue sea, rather than the skies above, this is your new go-to website.
Steve and Riley bring the ocean direct to your child’s computer with high-quality, fact-filled videos. With a strong emphasis on environmental education, this Father-Daughter duo go all out to capture some great video content. With articles like What eats turtles? Do dolphins drink water? and Can a girl fish become a boy fish? this website answers everything you ever wanted to know about the ocean. There’s more Dad-jokes than you can shake a sea-sponge at, but don’t let that put you off. If Steve’s Dad-jokes ‘flounder’ a little, Riley jumps in to prevent a ‘ship-wreck’ (did you see what I did there!).

Connect Safely:
Tips for Dealing with Teen S
e
xting

“Sexting” usually refers to the sharing of nude or semi-nude and sexually provocative photos via mobile phones, but it can happen on other devices and the Web too. First of all, research shows most teens don’t “sext.” And most of those who do experience no negative consequences. But for teens who do sext, there are both psychological and legal risks, especially if coercion is involved and the images wind up being distributed beyond their intended audience. Sexting is certainly not just a teen issue, but these tips are specifically for teens and parents of teens.

How to Geek:
Does Your Smart Phone Really Need a Screen Protector?

Smartphones are expensive — you wouldn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on one and end up with a scratched screen. Many people still buy screen protectors to protect those screens, but they’ve become less necessary.
Screen protectors were once practically mandatory, but advances in glass and coatings have made them unnecessary for most people. You don’t have to buy a screen protector when you get a new phone.

Jeff Reagan - Sunday Thoughts
- Marriage Work

I’ve said many times here that I’m lucky to have found Karen.
Or, I should say… I’m lucky she chose to finally give me the time of day after much persistence.
We’ve got a good thing, and I recognize that. But despite Karen’s appreciation for “chick flick” romances where everything is rosy because of cosmic forces and overpowering love… marriage takes work.
I can see you nodding your heads.
