Tim Elmore:
The Connection Between Incentive and Entitlement

I have two friends who are sales people. Neither of them receives a base salary for their job, but both are making a good paycheck each month. They work completely off of commissions. When they make a sale, they make some money. Not only is their career going well, I’d say I don’t know anyone with a greater work ethic than these two individuals.  Why is this true?
Their job is completely based upon incentive.

Scholastic:  DIY Math Memory Game
by Jennifer Hogan

Can your child spot and identify numbers one through 10? This is an important bit of knowledge to pick up before kindergarten. Familiarity with these numbers helps your little one develop number sense and feel confident around math.
During the day at preschool and kindergarten, your child does activities to build number recognition and practice counting. But there are lots of ways to sharpen these skills at home, too. One of our favorites is this easy and fun craft sticky memory game, which helps your child see, count, and match numbers.  (Workbooks like Numbers & Concepts can also be a fun way to introduce number identification.)

How to Detect Hidden Surveillance Cameras With Your Phone
Written by Josh Hendrickson

"A family recently discovered a rude surprise at their Airbnb: a hidden camera disguised as a smoke detector in the living room. Here are two ways to check for cameras—in an Airbnb or elsewhere—using only an iPhone or Android phone.

If you’re staying in a hotel or an Airbnb, hidden cameras can be a worry. In the case of Airbnb, your host is required to list any cameras they have, whether or not they’re turned on. Additionally, Airbnb does not allow hosts to place cameras in bathrooms or sleeping areas, even if that’s a living room with a foldout bed."

Young Ocean Explorers

www.youngoceanexplorers.com is an amazing website made by a Father and Daughter team from New Zealand. If your kids are into the deep blue sea, rather than the skies above, this is your new go-to website.
Steve and Riley bring the ocean direct to your child’s computer with high-quality, fact-filled videos. With a strong emphasis on environmental education, this Father-Daughter duo go all out to capture some great video content. With articles like What eats turtles? Do dolphins drink water? and Can a girl fish become a boy fish? this website answers everything you ever wanted to know about the ocean. There’s more Dad-jokes than you can shake a sea-sponge at, but don’t let that put you off. If Steve’s Dad-jokes ‘flounder’ a little, Riley jumps in to prevent a ‘ship-wreck’ (did you see what I did there!).

Light Up Your Brain:  Free Audio Stories for Children
"What’s important about what’s offered here is that they are downloadable MP3s (they’ll play on virtually any audio device…and because you can download them…you don’t have to be on Wi-Fi to listen…so they are perfect for long car trips!), and that they are FREE.
Below, you’ll find a list of the audio stories that we’ve created especially for you, all read by me (Chuck Brown). Click on the story title to visit that story’s page, where you can read along and download the audio file. "

Common Sense Media:  How to Raise a Reader
by Regan Mcmahon

"Kids become lifelong readers for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes there's one key book that captures a kid's imagination and opens him or her up to the exciting world of fiction. Other times, a teacher who assigns great books in class sparks a hunger for more big ideas and fine writing. In some cases, parents influence kids' appreciation of books by sharing their own love of literature and modeling reader behavior -- always having a book to read, taking books on vacation, reading before bedtime, making regular trips to the library and bookstore, etc."

Story Time from Space
"Story Time From Space combines science literacy outreach with simple demonstrations recorded aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Crew members read five science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related children's books in orbit, and complete simple science concept experiments. Crew members videotape themselves reading the books and completing demonstrations. Video and data collected during the demonstrations are downlinked to the ground and posted in a video library with accompanying educational materials."
